The onsemi NCP380LMUAJAATBG is a high-side power distribution switch designed for applications subject to heavy capacitive loads and short-circuit conditions, such as USB ports and hot-swap power supplies. The device integrates a 70 mΩ P-channel MOSFET in a compact UDFN-6 package with exposed pad for excellent thermal performance. When the output load exceeds the current limit threshold or a short circuit occurs, the device switches to constant-current regulation mode, limiting the output current to the programmed level. The current limit threshold is adjustable from 500 mA to 2.1 A via an external resistor (RILIM). An internal reverse-voltage detection comparator disables the switch when the output voltage exceeds the input voltage, protecting the input supply. The FLAG output (active low, open drain) signals fault conditions including over-current, over-temperature, and reverse voltage. Built-in soft-start and soft turn-off features minimize inrush current and voltage ringing. The device supports IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD protection on the output.

The NCP380LMUAJAATBG operates as a high-side power switch using an internal P-channel MOSFET. When EN is driven high, the gate driver turns on the P-MOSFET, connecting VIN to VOUT through the 70 mΩ on-resistance. The soft-start circuit gradually turns on the MOSFET to limit inrush current into capacitive loads. The current sense circuit monitors the load current — when it exceeds the programmed limit (set by RILIM), the device enters constant-current mode, regulating the MOSFET gate to maintain the current at the limit threshold. If the over-current condition persists and the junction temperature rises, the thermal shutdown circuit turns off the MOSFET at approximately 140°C. The reverse voltage comparator monitors VOUT vs VIN — if VOUT exceeds VIN by more than ~140 mV, the MOSFET is turned off to prevent current flowing back into the source. The FLAG output is asserted low during any fault condition. The UVLO circuit ensures the MOSFET remains off until VIN exceeds approximately 2.0V.
