The Richtek RT8294AZSP is a 3A synchronous step-down DC-DC converter in SOP-8 (EP) package with integrated power MOSFETs. Operating from 4.5V to 18V input at 500kHz, it provides a compact and efficient point-of-load solution for converting 5V or 12V rails to lower voltages such as 3.3V, 1.8V, and 1.2V in networking, consumer, and industrial applications.

The RT8294AZSP uses current-mode control with integrated high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs. The high-side MOSFET is driven by an internal bootstrap circuit, and the low-side MOSFET provides synchronous rectification for high efficiency. The 0.8V reference voltage allows output voltage setting from 0.8V to 14V via an external resistor divider. The 500kHz fixed frequency balances efficiency and inductor size. Current-mode control provides fast transient response and easy loop compensation.
