The TPS562210A is a 2A synchronous step-down converter featuring TI’s D-CAP3 control mode, which provides excellent transient response without requiring external compensation components. The device integrates 70mΩ high-side and 40mΩ low-side MOSFETs, achieving high efficiency across the load range. With a 4.5V to 17V input range and 0.6V to 7V adjustable output, it supports a wide variety of point-of-load applications from 12V and 5V bus architectures. The 600kHz switching frequency balances efficiency and solution size, while auto-skip mode maintains high efficiency at light loads.

The TPS562210A uses TI’s proprietary D-CAP3 control mode, an adaptive on-time control architecture with emulated internal ripple injection. Unlike traditional current-mode control, D-CAP3 does not require external compensation because it uses an internal ripple generator that emulates the output inductor ripple current. The on-time is adjusted proportionally to the input voltage to maintain a pseudo-constant switching frequency. When the output voltage drops below the reference, a new on-time pulse is initiated. The low-side MOSFET is turned on during the off-time for synchronous rectification, eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode and improving efficiency. At light loads, the device enters auto-skip mode, allowing discontinuous conduction to minimize switching losses.
