The TPS7250 is a member of the TPS72xx family of low-dropout linear regulators from Texas Instruments. Designed for battery-powered and portable applications, this LDO provides a fixed output voltage with very low quiescent current and excellent line and load regulation. The SOIC-8 package provides easy PCB assembly and good thermal performance. The device includes built-in thermal shutdown and current limit protection for reliable operation in demanding environments.

The TPS7250 uses a P-channel MOSFET pass element to regulate the output voltage. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (via internal resistor divider for fixed versions) against an internal bandgap reference. The amplifier drives the gate of the P-channel pass transistor to maintain the desired output voltage. Low dropout is achieved because the P-channel MOSFET requires minimal gate-source voltage to remain in saturation. The low quiescent current results from the CMOS-based control circuitry, which draws minimal current compared to bipolar LDO designs.
