The VRB1205ZP-6WR3 from MORNSUN is a 6W isolated regulated DC-DC converter in DIP package. It accepts 12V nominal input (9-18V 2:1 range) and provides a regulated 5V/1200mA single output with 79-81% efficiency. The 1500VDC I/O isolation provides safety and noise immunity. The module meets CISPR22/EN55022 Class A EMI standards without external components. Input under-voltage protection, output over-current, short-circuit, and over-voltage protection are included.

The VRB1205ZP-6WR3 operates as a flyback-type isolated DC-DC converter. (1) The input stage includes under-voltage lockout (UVLO) that prevents operation below 9V input, and an EMI input filter ensuring CISPR22 Class A compliance. The wide 2:1 input range (9-18V) accommodates battery voltage variation. (2) The power stage uses a forward or flyback topology switching at 300kHz, with a coupled inductor/transformer providing galvanic isolation rated at 1500VDC. The output is regulated by a PWM controller that adjusts duty cycle based on output voltage feedback through an optocoupler. (3) Protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limiting for overload, hiccup-mode short-circuit protection, and over-voltage clamping. The very low 0.09W no-load power consumption enables always-on applications.
