It provides dual-head digital video output (up to 2560×1600 on DisplayPort, 2048×1152 on DVI/HDMI), integrated VGA, DVI, HDMI 1.3, DisplayPort 1.1 support, Gigabit Ethernet MAC, and 5.1-channel audio — all over a single USB 3.0 connection. The DL-3900-N is a highly integrated USB 3.0 Dock-on-a-Chip SoC from the Synaptics DisplayLink DL-3000 series. It provides dual-head digital video output supporting resolutions up to 2560×1600 (DisplayPort) and 2048×1152 (DVI/HDMI), with integrated VGA, DVI, HDMI 1.3, DisplayPort 1.1 support, Gigabit Ethernet MAC, and 5.1-channel audio over a single USB 3.0 connection. The -N suffix denotes the Non-HDCP variant. Widely adopted by Dell, HP, Lenovo, Plugable, Targus, and others in universal docking stations.

The DL-3900-N receives video data from the host computer over USB 3.0 (5 Gbps, backward compatible with USB 2.0). The on-chip DL3 compression codec encodes the pixel stream with ultra-low latency, pixel-perfect quality, and automatic bandwidth adaptation. The decompressed video is output to dual display interfaces: integrated VGA (via internal DAC), DVI (digital), HDMI 1.3 (with HDCP 1.x), and DisplayPort 1.1 (via external transmitter). The SoC also integrates a Gigabit Ethernet MAC (requiring an external PHY) and a 5.1-channel audio controller. External DDR2/DDR3 memory and I2C EEPROM are required for framebuffer and firmware. Enterprise features include Wake-on-LAN, PXE Boot, and MAPT for IT deployment flexibility.
