Working Principle
The DS2712 implements a multi-method charge termination algorithm for safe NiMH charging. The fast-charge phase uses constant current. Termination is detected by: (1) -Delta-V: a small voltage drop indicates full charge; (2) Delta-T/Delta-P: temperature rise rate exceeds threshold; (3) Maximum temperature or timeout. Precharge phase conditions deeply discharged cells at reduced current. Top-off phase applies reduced current to fully top the cells. A thermistor input monitors battery temperature; charging is suspended if temperature exceeds the safety threshold.
