The ADP2108AUJZ-1.2-R7 from Analog Devices is a 600mA synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with 1.2V fixed output in a 5-lead TSOT package. Operating at 3MHz switching frequency with 95% peak efficiency, it requires only three tiny external components (inductor, input cap, output cap). The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the Schottky diode, reducing component count. 18uA quiescent current and power-save mode extend battery life in portable applications.

The ADP2108 uses a current-mode PWM control scheme at 3MHz fixed frequency. The high-side PMOS switch and low-side NMOS synchronous rectifier alternate to step down the input voltage. Under light load, power-save mode reduces the effective switching frequency to maintain efficiency. 100% duty cycle mode allows the output to follow the input when VIN approaches VOUT. Internal compensation and soft start simplify design.
