The ADW1212HLW is a 2W isolated DC-DC converter providing 12VDC to 12VDC conversion with 3000VDC galvanic isolation in a compact SIP-4 through-hole package. The device belongs to the ADW series of 2W single-output converters designed for signal and power isolation in industrial control, communication, and medical equipment. The regulated 12VDC output maintains +/-3% regulation over the full input voltage range and from no load to full load, ensuring stable power for isolated circuitry. The 3000VDC isolation rating provides safety-rated isolation between input and output, meeting the requirements of most industrial and medical isolation standards. The 80% typical efficiency minimizes thermal dissipation, allowing reliable operation without heatsinking in most applications. Continuous short-circuit protection with automatic recovery prevents damage from output fault conditions. The SIP-4 package with only 4 pins (Vin+, Vin-, Vout+, Vout-) provides the simplest possible PCB layout for isolated power, and the 7.5mm height profile fits in most card rack systems. The device operates reliably over the -40C to +85C temperature range without derating.

The ADW1212HLW uses a flyback converter topology with transformer isolation. (1) Isolation: The primary and secondary sides are galvanically isolated by the transformer, which provides the 3000VDC isolation barrier. No electrical connection exists between input and output, preventing ground loops and providing safety isolation. (2) Flyback Conversion: On the primary side, a MOSFET switch chops the DC input into AC, driving the transformer primary winding. Energy is stored in the transformer core during the on-time and released to the secondary during the off-time. (3) Rectification and Regulation: The secondary AC output is rectified and filtered to produce the DC output. A feedback loop (typically optocoupler-based for isolation) monitors the output voltage and adjusts the primary-side switch duty cycle to maintain regulation at 12VDC. (4) Protection: The output current is monitored. If it exceeds the limit (short circuit), the switching duty cycle is reduced or the converter enters hiccup mode. When the fault is removed, the converter automatically recovers.
