The APL3511CBI-TRG is a single-channel high-side power switch from Anpec Electronics (available through Diodes Inc) in a compact SOT-23-5 package, specifically designed for USB port power distribution in notebook and desktop computers. The device integrates a 70 mΩ N-channel MOSFET power switch that meets USB voltage drop requirements, along with comprehensive protection circuitry including current limiting, short-circuit protection, over-temperature shutdown, under-voltage lockout, and reverse current blocking. The current limit is set at approximately 1 A to protect against overcurrent conditions while supporting USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 current requirements. The soft-start function limits inrush current during hot-plug events, and the output discharge function ensures rapid voltage decay when the switch is turned off. An open-drain fault indicator (OCB) signals overcurrent and over-temperature conditions to the host controller.

The APL3511CBI-TRG operates as a high-side N-channel MOSFET switch with an internal charge pump generating the gate drive voltage above the supply rail. When the enable (EN) pin is driven high, the charge pump activates and ramps the gate voltage through a soft-start circuit, limiting the inrush current to the load. The current limit circuit monitors the MOSFET current through a sense element; when the current exceeds the 1 A threshold, the loop reduces the gate drive to maintain the current at the limit level. Under short-circuit conditions where VOUT drops below VIN – 1 V, the current limit is reduced to a lower safe level. The over-temperature protection monitors junction temperature and shuts down the switch at 140°C. The output discharge function activates an internal pull-down resistor on VOUT when the switch is disabled, discharging the load capacitance for clean turn-off. The OCB open-drain output asserts low during fault conditions.
