The EPCOS/TDK B59751C0120A070 is a PTC inrush current limiter from the B59751C (C751) series, providing self-resetting inrush current protection for 280VAC mains applications. With 50 Ohm cold resistance and a hold current of 87mA, this device limits startup surge currents in consumer electronics, home appliances, and industrial power supplies. When current flows and the device self-heats, its resistance decreases to minimize steady-state power loss. If an overcurrent occurs, the PTC trips and limits the fault current until the condition clears and the device resets.

The B59751C0120A070 PTC inrush current limiter uses a polycrystalline ceramic material with a high positive temperature coefficient. At power-on, the device is at ambient temperature with 50 Ohm resistance, limiting the peak inrush current drawn by downstream capacitors and rectifiers. As current flows, Joule heating raises the device temperature, causing resistance to decrease and minimizing steady-state power dissipation. If an overcurrent condition develops, the device temperature rises above the Curie point, causing a dramatic resistance increase that limits fault current. When the fault clears and the device cools, it returns to its low-resistance operating state automatically.
