The BQ27425-G2A is an easy-to-configure system-side fuel gauge from Texas Instruments that uses the patented Impedance Track algorithm to provide high-accuracy state-of-charge (SOC) and remaining capacity (mAh) predictions for single-cell Li-Ion batteries. The device integrates a 10 mOhm sense resistor between the SRX and VSS pins, eliminating the need for an external sense component. Battery fuel gauging requires connections only to PACK+ and PACK- for embedded or removable battery packs. The 15-pin DSBGA package at just 2.69 x 1.75 mm is ideal for space-constrained applications such as smartphones, tablets, and cameras.

The BQ27425-G2A uses the Impedance Track algorithm which combines coulomb counting with impedance measurement for accurate SOC determination. During battery discharge, the device measures cell voltage under load and compares it with the open-circuit voltage (OCV) to compute cell impedance. The OCV-SOC relationship is stored in an internal lookup table. By integrating charge flow through the integrated sense resistor and correlating with impedance-based SOC adjustments, the device compensates for battery aging, temperature, and discharge rate effects. An integrated temperature sensor or host-reported temperature is used for thermal compensation. Power modes include initialization, normal, sleep, and hibernate for minimizing power consumption.
