The LM2672MX-ADJ is a member of the SIMPLE SWITCHER family of step-down voltage regulators from Texas Instruments. It integrates a 0.25 Ohm DMOS power switch and patented internal frequency compensation, requiring only 5 external components for a complete design. The adjustable output version allows programming the output from 1.21V to 37V via an external resistor divider. Operating at 260 kHz switching frequency enables the use of small inductors and capacitors. With up to 96% efficiency and thermal shutdown protection, no heatsink is required as PCB copper traces provide adequate heat sinking.

The LM2672 uses a voltage-mode PWM control topology with an integrated DMOS power switch. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (from the external resistor divider) against the 1.21V internal reference, adjusting the PWM duty cycle to maintain the desired output voltage. The 260 kHz oscillator sets the switching frequency, which can be synchronized to an external clock via the SYNC pin. The soft-start circuit gradually increases duty cycle on startup to limit inrush current. When the ON/OFF pin is pulled low, the device enters standby mode with minimal quiescent current. Current limit and thermal shutdown protect against fault conditions.
