En RFPA5208TR13 de Qorvo (anteriormente RF Micro Devices) es un amplificador de potencia Wi-Fi de 2,4 GHz de tres etapas diseñado para aplicaciones 802.11b/g/n/ac. Integra un amplificador de potencia, un regulador de tensión y un acoplador detector de potencia en un único encapsulado MCM laminado de 10 patillas y 4,0 × 4,0 × 1,05 mm, con entrada y salida adaptadas internamente a 50 Ω, lo que elimina los componentes de adaptación externos y reduce el número de componentes de la lista de materiales. El RFPA5208TR13 funciona como un amplificador de potencia lineal de tres etapas con el siguiente flujo de señales:

1. Red de adaptación de entrada: La señal de entrada de RF (2,4-2,5 GHz) se alimenta a través de una entrada adaptada integrada de 50 ohmios, que no requiere componentes de adaptación externos. La pérdida de retorno de entrada suele ser de 10 dB.

2. Amplificación en tres etapas: La señal pasa a través de tres etapas de ganancia en cascada que juntas proporcionan 40 dB de ganancia típica con una planitud de ganancia de -1,5 dB en toda la banda de 2,4-2,5 GHz. Cada etapa está polarizada internamente por el regulador de tensión integrado, lo que garantiza un rendimiento estable con variaciones de la tensión de alimentación y de la temperatura.

3. Regulador integrado: Un regulador de tensión integrado en el chip convierte la alimentación de 5 V en tensiones de polarización controladas para cada etapa del amplificador. El regulador se activa a través de la patilla PA_EN (activo alto, 2,9-3,1 V). Cuando PA_EN está bajo (0-0,2 V), el amplificador se desactiva con una corriente de reposo de sólo 225 mA que disminuye aún más en el apagado.

4. Red de adaptación de salida: La señal amplificada sale a través de una salida integrada de 50 ohmios, que tampoco requiere adaptación externa. La pérdida de retorno de salida suele ser de 8 dB.

5. Detector de potencia (PDET): Un acoplador direccional y un detector integrados proporcionan una salida de tensión continua proporcional al nivel de potencia transmitida, lo que permite supervisar la potencia de transmisión en tiempo real y controlar la potencia en bucle cerrado sin necesidad de un acoplador externo.

6. Control de activación/desactivación: El pin PA_EN controla el estado de encendido/apagado del amplificador. Poniendo PA_EN alto se habilita el PA y el regulador; poniéndolo bajo se deshabilita el amplificador para ahorro de energía en operación Wi-Fi TDD (Time Division Duplex).
