The SMAJ15CA-13-F from Diodes Incorporated is a 15 V bidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from the SMAJ series in an SMA surface-mount package. It provides 600 W peak pulse power dissipation for protecting sensitive electronics from ESD, EFT, and surge events. The bidirectional configuration protects both positive and negative transients, making it suitable for AC signal lines and bidirectional data buses. The low clamping voltage of 24.4 V at the peak pulse current ensures effective downstream protection. The low standby leakage of 1 uA minimizes power consumption during normal operation.

The SMAJ15CA operates as a bidirectional avalanche diode that remains in a high-impedance state during normal operation when the voltage is within +/-15 V (VRWM). When a transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage (+/-16.7 V min), the device avalanches and clamps the voltage to a safe level (24.4 V max at rated current). The bidirectional structure consists of two back-to-back avalanche junctions, providing symmetric clamping in both polarities. After the transient passes, the device automatically returns to its high-impedance state. The 600 W rating is defined by the 10/1000 us pulse waveform.
