Rated at 600 W peak pulse power (10/1000 us), it provides ESD and surge protection with a breakdown voltage of 36.7 V minimum and clamping voltage of 53.3 V maximum.

The SMAJ33A-13-F from Diodes Incorporated is a 33 V unidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from the SMAJ series in an SMA surface-mount package. Designed for DC power line protection, it provides 600 W peak pulse power dissipation for suppressing ESD, EFT, and surge events on 24 V and 28 V DC power rails. The unidirectional configuration is optimized for DC circuits where only positive transients need to be clamped. The low standby leakage of 1 uA at 33 V ensures minimal power consumption during normal operation.

The SMAJ33A operates as a unidirectional avalanche diode that remains in a high-impedance state during normal operation when the voltage is below 33 V (VRWM). When a positive transient exceeds the breakdown voltage (36.7 V min), the device avalanches and clamps the voltage to 53.3 V maximum at the rated peak pulse current of 11.3 A. For negative transients, the forward diode characteristic provides clamping at approximately 1.2 V. After the transient passes, the device automatically returns to its high-impedance off state. The 600 W rating is defined for a 10/1000 us pulse waveform.
