The ST-03CH operates as a magnetic transducer where an electromagnetic coil drives a metallic diaphragm. When an alternating current at the resonant frequency (2.73 kHz) is applied to the coil, the resulting magnetic field causes the diaphragm to vibrate, producing sound waves. As an externally driven device, the user’s circuit must provide the drive signal — this allows variable frequency and on/off modulation control. The magnetic circuit is optimized for maximum sound pressure at the resonant frequency, where the diaphragm amplitude is largest. The 100 mA current draw reflects the energy required to drive the magnetic coil at rated voltage.
