The USB3320C-EZK is a highly integrated Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ULPI PHY transceiver from Microchip supporting multi-frequency reference clocks (12/13/19.2/24/26/27/38.4/52MHz) with a single part number. It integrates a USB switch, 3.3V LDO, ESD protection (±8kV HBM), and VBUS over-voltage protection up to +30V, eliminating external protection components. The ULPI interface connects to USB controllers with a 60MHz, 8-bit wide data bus. USB OTG support enables host and device capability in portable applications.

The USB3320 interfaces with the USB Link (SIE) controller via the ULPI (UTMI+ Low Pin Interface) protocol. The ULPI interface uses an 8-bit wide data bus clocked at 60MHz, requiring only 12 signals versus 38+ for UTMI. The internal PLL generates the 480MHz USB Hi-Speed clock from various reference clock inputs. The integrated USB switch routes D+/D- signals between the USB transceiver, battery charger detection, and audio accessory paths. VBUS sensing and drive circuitry with over-voltage protection supports OTG host mode. Battery charger detection identifies the charger type (SDP, CDP, DCP) for optimal charging current.
