The BC857BLT1G operates as a PNP bipolar junction transistor. In active mode, current flows from emitter to collector when the base is biased negative relative to the emitter. A small base current controls a larger collector current, with the gain factor hFE determining the amplification ratio (minimum 220 at 2 mA). The transistor enters saturation when both junctions are forward-biased, resulting in a low VCE(sat) of 650 mV max, making it efficient for switching applications. In cutoff mode, both junctions are reverse-biased and only minimal leakage current flows. The Schmitt-trigger-like hysteresis of the PN junctions provides inherent noise immunity.
