The MAX1480ECCPI+ from Maxim/Analog Devices is a complete electrically isolated half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 data communication interface in a 28-pin PDIP package. The hybrid microcircuit integrates transceiver, optocouplers, power driver, and transformer for full galvanic isolation rated at 1260VRMS (1 minute). The slew-rate-limited driver supports error-free data transmission up to 250kbps while minimizing EMI. +/-15kV ESD protection on all I/O pins ensures robust operation in harsh industrial environments.

The MAX1480E integrates a complete isolated RS-485 interface: a center-tapped transformer transfers power from the logic (non-isolated) side to the isolated bus side, while high-speed optocouplers transport data signals across the isolation barrier. A single 5V supply on the logic side powers both sides. The slew-rate-limited driver reduces EMI and cable reflections for error-free operation at up to 250kbps. Thermal shutdown and current limiting protect the driver outputs.
