Product Overview
The 74HC05D,118 from Nexperia is a hex inverter with open-drain outputs in a 14-pin SOIC package. The open-drain outputs enable wired-OR logic, level translation, and bus driving with external pull-up resistors to any voltage up to 6V.

Working Principle
Each of the six inverters has an open-drain N-channel output. When the input is HIGH, the output transistor is ON (LOW). When the input is LOW, the output is floating (HIGH-Z), requiring an external pull-up resistor. This enables wired-OR connections where multiple outputs share a common pull-up, and level translation when pull-ups are connected to a different supply rail.
Applications
- Wired-OR bus (I2C-like)
- Level translation
