The ISO3082DWR from Texas Instruments is a galvanically isolated half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver providing 2500V RMS isolation between the logic side and bus side in a 16-pin wide-body SOIC package. Unlike the ADM2587E which integrates isolated DC-DC power, the ISO3082 requires an external isolated power supply for the bus side, but offers a simpler isolation barrier. Operating at 200kbps with +/-16kV ESD protection on bus pins, 160-node capability, and 3.3V or 5V logic-side supply, it is well-suited for long-distance Modbus and PROFIBUS fieldbus networks.

The ISO3082 operates through four subsystems: (1) Capacitive Isolation Barrier: TI isoLogic capacitive coupling technology transfers digital signals across a silicon dioxide isolation barrier rated at 2500V RMS for 1 minute. (2) RS-485 Transceiver: A standard differential RS-485 driver and receiver on the bus side support 200kbps data rate with fail-safe receiver inputs (open/shorted bus defaults to logic high). (3) Power Isolation: Unlike the ISO3088 or ADM2587E, the ISO3082 does NOT include an integrated isolated DC-DC converter. An external isolated 5V supply must power the VCC2 (bus-side) pin. (4) Protection: +/-16kV HBM ESD on bus pins, -7V to +12V common-mode input range, and hot-plug capability with glitch-free power-up/down.
