The TPS61010DGSR from Texas Instruments is a 250mA boost (step-up) DC-DC converter with 1.8V fixed output in an 8-pin VSSOP package. The device starts up with input voltage as low as 0.9V, making it ideal for single alkaline or NiMH cell applications. With 90% typical efficiency and 20uA quiescent current, it efficiently converts low battery voltage to a regulated 1.8V rail. The anti-ringing feature suppresses inductor ringing during discontinuous conduction mode.

The TPS61010 uses a current-mode PWM boost topology. The internal N-channel MOSFET switch charges the inductor during the on-time, and the inductor energy transfers to the output through the external Schottky diode during the off-time. The error amplifier regulates the output to 1.8V by adjusting the peak inductor current. The device can start with a 0.9V input by using an auxiliary start-up circuit that operates from VOUT during initial start-up. Anti-ringing circuitry damps inductor ringing in DCM.
