The DS125DF410 is a quad-channel retimer operating from 9.8 to 12.5 Gbps, designed for restoring signal integrity in high-speed serial links with severe channel losses. Each channel integrates a fully adaptive CTLE providing up to 34 dB of boost at 5 GHz, a 5-tap self-tuning DFE for post-cursor ISI cancellation, and a CDR for clock recovery and data re-timing. The transmitter includes programmable output voltage (600-1300 mVp-p) and de-emphasis (up to -15 dB) for pre-compensating downstream channel losses. At only 180 mW per channel, the device offers industry-leading power efficiency. The on-chip eye monitor and PRBS generator/checker enable comprehensive link diagnostics during both development and deployment phases.

The DS125DF410 receives degraded serial data and processes it through a multi-stage signal conditioning pipeline. The adaptive CTLE analyzes the incoming signal spectrum and applies programmable high-frequency boost to compensate for the channel’s low-pass characteristic. The adaptive algorithm continuously monitors the equalized signal quality (via eye monitor) and adjusts the CTLE settings in real-time. The equalized signal then enters the 5-tap DFE, which uses decisions from the previous five bits to cancel their post-cursor ISI contributions. The DFE coefficients are self-tuned using an LMS (Least Mean Squares) algorithm. The CDR uses a bang-bang phase detector and a low-jitter VCO to extract a clean clock from the equalized data, which is then used to re-time the retimed data at the output. The transmit FIR filter provides programmable pre-cursor and post-cursor emphasis to pre-compensate for the downstream channel, with the output swing and de-emphasis level set via SMBus registers or EEPROM.
