The LM2936HVBMAX3.3/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a 3.3V fixed-output ultra-low quiescent current LDO voltage regulator in a SOT-89 surface-mount package. With only 50uA typical ground current, it is designed for always-on automotive and battery-powered systems. The 40V maximum input voltage (HVBM automotive version) accommodates full automotive battery transients including load dump. Reverse battery protection, current limiting, and thermal shutdown ensure robust operation from -40C to +125C.

The LM2936 uses a PNP pass element in a low-dropout configuration. The PNP transistor is driven by an error amplifier that compares a scaled version of the output with an internal bandgap reference. The ultra-low 50uA quiescent current is achieved by using a sub-regulated bias circuit that minimizes ground current when the output is lightly loaded or unloaded. Reverse battery protection prevents damage when input voltage is reversed (up to -15V). Current limiting and thermal shutdown protect against output short circuits and excessive power dissipation.
