The LM96000CIMT/NOPB is a hardware monitor with integrated fan control from Texas Instruments, packaged in a 24-pin TSSOP (PW) package. The LM96000 is a comprehensive hardware monitor IC designed for PC and server platform environmental monitoring. It integrates voltage monitoring for five standard supply rails with internal scaling resistors, two remote thermal diode inputs for CPU and GPU temperature measurement, and a local temperature sensor. Three PWM fan control outputs provide autonomous temperature-based fan speed regulation, while four tachometer inputs monitor fan speeds. The 8-bit ΣΔ ADC digitizes all monitored parameters, which are accessible through the SMBus 2.0 interface. The device also includes a 5-bit VID monitor for processor voltage identification. Note: This device has been obsoleted as of November 2023.

The LM96000 uses an 8-bit sigma-delta ADC to digitize the monitored parameters. The five voltage input channels include internal resistor dividers that scale the 2.5V, 3.3V, 5V, and 12V rails down to the ADC input range. The VCCP input is direct (un-divided) for monitoring the CPU core voltage. The remote thermal diode inputs apply a bias current to an external transistor (typically integrated in the CPU) and measure the base-emitter voltage difference at two bias currents to determine the junction temperature, independent of transistor process variation. The local temperature sensor uses an internal bandgap-based circuit. The three PWM fan control outputs use a programmable temperature-to-fan-speed lookup table that maps measured temperatures to PWM duty cycles, providing autonomous closed-loop fan control without processor intervention. The four tachometer inputs count the fan rotation pulses over a gate time to determine fan speed in RPM.
