The Power Integrations LNK3204D-TL is a LinkSwitch-TN2 family IC for non-isolated off-line power supplies. It integrates a 725V power MOSFET, oscillator, on/off control, high-voltage switched current source for self-biasing, frequency jittering, cycle-by-cycle current limit, hysteretic thermal shutdown, and output and input overvoltage protection on a monolithic IC. The device supports buck, buck-boost, and flyback topologies with up to 170 mA output current in CCM mode. It consumes very little current in standby, resulting in power supply designs that meet all no-load and standby specifications worldwide. The 725V MOSFET rating provides excellent surge withstand capability for consumer applications.

The LNK3204D-TL operates using primary-side on/off control. The internal 725V power MOSFET switches at 66 kHz with frequency jittering to reduce EMI. A high-voltage switched current source provides self-biasing from the DRAIN pin, eliminating the need for a bias winding. The on/off control scheme regulates output by enabling or disabling switching cycles based on the FB pin signal, maintaining high efficiency from full load to standby. The BYPASS pin capacitor selects between high and low current limit modes. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limiting, auto-restart for short-circuit and open-loop faults, output overvoltage protection, input overvoltage protection, and hysteretic thermal shutdown.
