The LT1134AISW#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a quad RS-232 line driver/receiver with on-chip charge pump for 5V single supply operation in a 16-pin wide SOIC package. The device provides 4 drivers and 5 receivers (4 + 1 wake-up receiver) with +/-15kV HBM ESD protection on all RS-232 interface pins. The internal voltage doubler and inverter charge pump generates the +/-10V supplies needed for RS-232 compliant +/-5.5V minimum output swing from a single 5V input.

The LT1134 uses an on-chip charge pump with four external capacitors to generate +/-10V supplies from a single 5V input. The voltage doubler (C1, C2) produces +10V from VCC=5V, while the voltage inverter (C3, C4) produces -10V. The four drivers convert TTL/CMOS logic levels (0-5V) to RS-232 levels (+/-5.5V) using these generated supplies. The five receivers convert RS-232 input levels (+/-3V to +/-25V) to TTL/CMOS output levels (0-5V).
