The MSP430G2231IPW4RQ1 is an automotive-qualified ultra-low-power mixed-signal microcontroller from Texas Instruments. Based on the 16-bit MSP430 RISC architecture, it features 2 KB Flash, 128 bytes SRAM, a 10-bit 200 ksps ADC with internal reference and autoscan capability, and a Universal Serial Interface (USI) supporting both SPI and I2C protocols. Five low-power modes and sub-1 µs wake-up from standby make it ideal for battery-powered and energy-constrained automotive sensor applications.

The MSP430G2231 uses a 16-bit RISC CPU with constant generators for maximum code efficiency. The digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) enables sub-1 µs wake-up from low-power modes. The Basic Clock Module supports internal frequencies up to 16 MHz with one calibrated frequency, an internal very low power 128 kHz oscillator, and external 32 kHz crystal. Timer_A provides two capture/compare registers for PWM generation and timing. The USI module handles SPI or I2C communication with minimal CPU intervention.
