The onsemi NCP500SN25T1G is a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator designed for portable battery-powered applications requiring low noise operation, fast enable response time, and low dropout. The device provides a fixed 2.5 V output at up to 150 mA from an input range of 1.8 V to 6.0 V. It achieves ultra-low noise performance without the need for an external noise bypass capacitor. The internal architecture includes a voltage reference unit, error amplifier, PMOS power transistor, output voltage setting resistors, current limit protection, and temperature limit protection circuits. The NCP500 is designed for use with low-cost ceramic capacitors and requires a minimum output capacitor of 1.0 µF.

The NCP500SN25T1G uses a PMOS pass transistor as the regulating element. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (via internal resistor divider) with a precision internal voltage reference. The amplifier output drives the gate of the PMOS transistor to regulate the output. Because the PMOS device has very low on-resistance, the dropout voltage is only 190 mV at full load. The enable pin allows external logic to turn the regulator on or off with a 20 µs turn-on time. Internal protection circuits include current limiting and thermal shutdown, which safely disable the regulator under fault conditions.
