The onsemi NCP716MT50TBG is an ultra-low quiescent current LDO linear voltage regulator providing a fixed 5.0V output at up to 80 mA. Designed for portable and battery-powered applications, it achieves an industry-leading quiescent current of only 3.2 µA typical, significantly extending battery life in always-on systems. The wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 24V makes it suitable for both battery and industrial power sources. Housed in a compact WDFN-6 package (2 x 2 mm with exposed pad), the device offers excellent thermal performance in a minimal footprint. The NCP716 features ±2% output accuracy, 54 dB PSRR at 100 kHz, and comprehensive protection including thermal shutdown, current limit, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The device is compatible with low-cost ceramic capacitors and requires minimal external components.

The NCP716MT50TBG uses an internal PMOS pass transistor as the regulating element. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (via internal resistor divider) with a precision bandgap reference. The amplifier drives the PMOS gate to maintain the output at 5.0V. The ultra-low quiescent current of 3.2 µA is achieved through advanced bias circuitry that minimizes current consumption in the error amplifier and reference while maintaining regulation. The dropout voltage of 500 mV at 80 mA occurs when the input-to-output differential falls below the PMOS saturation voltage. The UVLO circuit disables the output when VDD falls below approximately 2.2V, preventing unreliable operation during power-up/power-down transitions. Thermal shutdown activates at approximately 160°C, and current limiting protects against short-circuit conditions. The device is stable with ceramic output capacitors as small as 1 µF.
