The TPS60403-Q1 is an automotive-qualified 60mA charge-pump voltage inverter from Texas Instruments. It generates a negative output voltage from a positive input supply using an inverted charge-pump (flying capacitor) topology, requiring no inductors and only three external capacitors. The device operates from 1.6V to 5.5V input and provides up to 60mA output current. The 20kHz fixed switching frequency minimizes output ripple and EMI. AEC-Q100 qualification makes it suitable for automotive applications such as LCD bias generation, negative op-amp rails, and double-ended sensor supplies.

The TPS60403-Q1 uses a switched-capacitor (flying capacitor) voltage inverter topology. During the charge phase, the flying capacitor (CFLY) is connected between VIN and GND, charging to approximately VIN. During the discharge phase, the capacitor is reconnected with its positive terminal to GND and its negative terminal to the output (COUT). This effectively inverts the voltage, making the output approximately -VIN minus the voltage drops across the internal switches. The charge/discharge cycles occur at 20kHz, and the output regulation is achieved by the load and the inherent output impedance of the charge pump. The output voltage is unregulated (follows -VIN with load-dependent droop), which is suitable for applications that can tolerate moderate output voltage variation.
