The Microchip USB3320C-EZK is a highly integrated, full-featured Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ULPI transceiver based on Microchip’s proven ULPI interface technology. It provides a configurable physical layer (PHY) solution for a wide variety of products requiring USB connectivity. The reference clock frequency is user selectable, and the device includes an internal oscillator compatible with quartz crystals or ceramic resonators. Outstanding ESD robustness eliminates the need for external ESD protection devices in typical applications. The internal over-voltage protection circuit protects the device from voltages up to 30V on the VBUS pin. The integrated battery-to-3.3V regulator and flexPWR sleep mode further reduce BOM cost and power consumption.

The USB3320C-EZK operates as the physical layer interface between a USB controller (link layer) and the USB cable. 1) ULPI Interface Subsystem: A 12-pin ULPI bus connects to the USB link controller, transferring data at 8-bit/60MHz or 4-bit/30MHz for full and high-speed operation. 2) USB PHY Core Subsystem: Performs NRZI encoding/decoding, bit stuffing/unstuffing, and serial-to-parallel conversion for USB 2.0 data rates up to 480Mbps. 3) Analog Front-End Subsystem: Contains the high-speed differential transceivers for D+ and D- lines, with integrated pull-up/pull-down resistors and ESD protection circuits. 4) Power Management Subsystem: The integrated regulator converts battery voltage to 3.3V for PHY operation, while flexPWR sleep mode reduces power by tri-stating ULPI pins and entering a low-current state.
