The XFL4020-222MEC from Coilcraft is a 2.2uH shielded power inductor in a 4.0×4.0×2.0mm package. The fully shielded construction contains magnetic flux within the ferrite core, minimizing EMI coupling to nearby traces. 3.20A saturation current and 52 mOhm DCR provide efficient energy storage for multi-MHz step-down DC-DC converters in computing and telecom applications.

A flat-wire coil wound on a ferrite drum core with a ferrite shield plate covering the top and sides. The shield returns magnetic flux that would otherwise leak from the top, creating a nearly closed magnetic circuit. The flat wire minimizes AC winding loss (skin effect) at high switching frequencies. Energy E=0.5*L*I^2 is stored in the ferrite core gap during the switch-on period and delivered to the load during switch-off.
