The ZM206 crystal uses a tuning fork quartz element vibrating at 32.768kHz (2^15 Hz) in flexural mode. When connected in the feedback path of a CMOS oscillator with 12.5pF load capacitance, the piezoelectric effect sustains precise oscillation. The 32.768kHz frequency divided by 2^15 produces exactly 1Hz for RTC counting.
