The 1.5SMC400CA is a 1500W bidirectional TVS diode from Littelfuse’s 1.5SMC series, providing high-energy transient voltage suppression for high-voltage power circuits. With a reverse standoff voltage of 342V and maximum clamping voltage of 548V, it is designed for protecting 380V AC power systems, industrial motor drive DC buses, and high-voltage inverter circuits. The bidirectional configuration provides symmetrical clamping for both positive and negative transients.

Under normal voltage conditions below 342V, the 1.5SMC400CA presents very high impedance with leakage current below 1μA. When a transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage (380-420V), the avalanche junction rapidly conducts and clamps the voltage to 548V maximum at the rated peak pulse current. The bidirectional configuration uses two avalanche junctions in anti-series, providing symmetrical clamping for both polarities. After the transient event, the device automatically returns to its high-impedance blocking state.
