The CD4030BE from Texas Instruments contains four independent 2-input Exclusive-OR (XOR) gates. Each gate implements Y = A ⊕ B = ĀB + AB̄; the output is HIGH when the two inputs are different, and LOW when they are the same. The XOR function is fundamental in digital logic: it is the building block for parity generation, binary addition, and comparison circuits. A key property of the XOR gate is its use as a true/complement element: when one input is LOW, the output equals the other input (pass-through); when one input is HIGH, the output is the complement of the other input (inversion). This makes the XOR gate a controllable inverter/buffer — useful for signal polarity switching and modulator circuits. The CD4030 is the original CMOS XOR gate; the CD4070 is a newer equivalent with identical functionality. The BE suffix denotes the PDIP-14 package.

CD4030 is the CMOS 4000-series quad 2-input exclusive-or gate operating over the wide 3-18V supply range. The HEF4030 (NXP) and MC144030 (onsemi) are direct pin-compatible equivalents. For higher speed at the cost of narrower voltage range, the 74HC86 HC/HCT families offer significantly faster propagation delay and lower power consumption at 2-6V. Surface-mount versions use the BM/M suffix (SOIC); through-hole versions use the BE suffix (DIP).
