The MC33771ASP1AER2 from NXP is an SP1 revision lithium-ion battery cell controller IC designed for high-voltage battery management systems. Managing 7 to 14 series-connected cells with 0.8 mV maximum total voltage measurement error, it supports both isolated 2.0 Mbps TPL and 4.0 Mbps SPI communication. The SP1 revision adds enhanced diagnostic capabilities. The device includes 300 mA on-board passive cell balancing, 7 GPIO/temperature inputs, and a 5V reference output. Fully ISO 26262 ASIL-D compliant and AEC-Q100 qualified.

The MC33771ASP1 operates similarly to the BSP1 variant, measuring cell voltages through a precision 14-bit ADC. The SP1 revision enhances fault diagnostics including improved open-wire detection and additional safety mechanisms. Cell balancing uses internal 300 mA discharge FETs with diagnostic monitoring. Communication supports daisy-chaining up to 15 nodes via TPL differential signaling. Fault detection covers over/under voltage, over/under temperature, open wire, and leakage faults, all meeting ISO 26262 ASIL-D diagnostic requirements.
