The P0220SAMCLRP is a SIDACor Thyristor Surge Protection Device from Littelfuse, providing bidirectional crowbar-type overvoltage protection for telecom and data communication lines. Unlike TVS diodes which clamp the voltage, the SIDACtor triggers into a low-voltage on-state (crowbar mode) when the breakover voltage is exceeded, effectively short-circuiting the transient energy to ground. After the surge current falls below the holding current, the device self-resets to its high-impedance off-state. With a 15V off-state voltage and 32V breakover voltage, it is specifically designed for low-voltage telecom line protection.

The SIDACtor is a bidirectional thyristor device that operates in crowbar mode. Under normal voltage conditions below Vdrm (15V), the device is in a high-impedance off-state with leakage current below 5μA. When a transient voltage exceeds the breakover voltage (32V max), the device triggers into a low-voltage on-state, creating a virtual short circuit that diverts surge current away from the protected equipment. The on-state voltage is typically 3-4V. After the surge current drops below the holding current (50mA), the device commutates off and returns to its high-impedance state, ready for the next event.
