The CDBM1100-G from Comchip Technology is a 100 V, 1 A Schottky barrier rectifier diode in a MiniMELF surface-mount package. The Schottky barrier construction provides a low forward voltage drop of 0.55 V at 1 A, significantly lower than conventional PN junction diodes, reducing conduction losses in power applications. The low reverse leakage current of 0.5 uA and fast switching speed make it ideal for high-frequency rectification, DC-DC converter free-wheeling, and reverse polarity protection circuits.

The CDBM1100-G uses a Schottky barrier formed by a metal-semiconductor junction (typically chromium or molybdenum on N-type silicon). Unlike PN junction diodes, the Schottky barrier operates with majority carrier conduction, eliminating the reverse recovery charge that causes switching losses in conventional diodes. This results in very fast switching and no reverse recovery time. The trade-off is a higher reverse leakage current compared to PN junction diodes, though the CDBM1100-G maintains low leakage at 0.5 uA. The low forward voltage drop reduces power dissipation in forward conduction.
