The FT232RQ-REE is the tape-and-reel packaged version of FTDI’s popular FT232R USB to serial UART interface IC in a QFN-32 package. This single-chip solution provides a complete USB to asynchronous serial data transfer interface with full modem control handshaking signals. The device features integrated 1024-bit EEPROM for storing device descriptors and CBUS configuration, built-in USB termination resistors, and fully integrated clock generation with no external crystal required. Supporting data rates from 300 baud to 3 Mbaud at TTL levels with configurable I/O voltage from 1.8V to 5V, it provides flexible, reliable USB connectivity with royalty-free VCP and D2XX drivers across all major operating systems.

The FT232RQ functions as a full USB-to-UART bridge controller, implementing USB 2.0 full-speed (12Mbps) on the host side and a flexible UART interface on the application side. The on-chip Serial Interface Engine (SIE) and USB Protocol Engine handle all USB protocol processing, offloading this work from the host processor and requiring no custom USB firmware. Data received from the USB host is stored in the 128-byte receive FIFO and transmitted via the UART at the configured baud rate. UART receive data is stored in the 256-byte transmit FIFO and sent back over USB in bulk packets. The integrated +3.3V LDO regulator powers the USB transceiver and provides level conversion for UART signals. The UART interface supports 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and odd/even/mark/space/no parity. The FTDIChip-ID unique serial number enables software licensing and security dongle applications.
