The IL485E is NVE Corporation’s high-speed isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver featuring IsoLoop® GMR isolation technology. This device combines a complete RS-485 differential line driver and receiver with 2.5kVrms galvanic isolation in a single 16-pin wide-body SOIC package. Capable of data rates up to 35Mbps, the IL485E is ideal for high-speed industrial communication networks requiring robust galvanic isolation. The device features true fail-safe receiver design, driver short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown to ensure reliable operation under all conditions. Its wide 3.0V to 5.5V supply range on both sides of the isolation barrier provides maximum design flexibility.

The IL485E uses NVE’s patented IsoLoop Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) isolation technology to provide signal isolation without the limitations of optocouplers. Digital data is converted into magnetic signals that cross the isolation barrier and are detected by magnetoresistive sensors on the opposite side. This technology offers superior long-term reliability compared to optoelectronic isolation methods. On the bus side, the RS-485 transceiver uses a differential current-steering architecture to drive the A and B bus lines with controlled slew rates for EMC performance. The receiver detects differential voltages on the bus and converts them back to single-ended logic signals on the isolated side.
