The IRF740PBF is a 400V N-channel enhancement mode power MOSFET designed for high-voltage switching applications. It features low gate charge and low crss (reverse transfer capacitance), enabling fast switching performance. The TO-220AB through-hole package provides excellent thermal dissipation for high-voltage, medium-current power conversion designs.

The IRF740PBF operates as an N-channel enhancement-mode MOSFET. When a positive gate-source voltage exceeding the threshold (2-4V) is applied, an n-type inversion channel forms in the p-type body region, allowing current to flow from drain to source. In the off-state, the device blocks up to 400V between drain and source with VGS = 0. In switching applications, the device transitions between the cut-off and ohmic regions. The relatively high RDS(on) of 550mΩ is typical for high-voltage MOSFETs due to the trade-off between breakdown voltage and on-resistance.
