The KBPC5010 is a high-power single-phase bridge rectifier rated at 50 amperes average forward current with 1000V peak reverse voltage. Packaged in a robust KBPC square metal case (28 x 28 x 25mm), this device provides reliable full-wave rectification for high-power AC-DC conversion applications. The metal case construction offers excellent thermal conductivity, enabling efficient heat transfer to an external heatsink, which is essential for maintaining safe operating temperatures at the 50A current rating. The case is electrically isolated from the internal diode elements with a 2500VAC isolation rating, allowing direct mounting to a grounded chassis or heatsink for maximum heat dissipation and safety. The KBPC5010 incorporates four glass-passivated silicon rectifier diodes in a bridge configuration. Glass-passivated junctions provide stable electrical characteristics, low reverse leakage current, and excellent long-term reliability. The device can handle non-repetitive surge currents up to 500A, ensuring robust performance during power-on inrush and transient conditions. The 0.25″ (6.35mm) Faston quick-connect terminals enable quick and reliable electrical connections. The KBPC5010 operates as a high-current full-wave single-phase bridge rectifier. The operating principle involves: 1) Four-Diode Bridge Configuration: Four high-power silicon rectifier diodes are interconnected in a bridge topology with two AC inputs and two DC outputs (positive and negative rails). The diodes are arranged such that during both positive and negative half-cycles of the AC input voltage, current flows through the load in the same direction (from positive to negative DC output). 2) Positive Half-Cycle Conduction: When AC1 is positive relative to AC2, two diodes conduct simultaneously: Diode D1 connects AC1 to the positive DC output (+DC), and diode D2 connects the negative DC output (-DC) to AC2. Current flows: AC1 → D1 → Load (+ to -) → D2 → AC2. 3) Negative Half-Cycle Conduction: When AC2 is positive relative to AC1, the other two diodes conduct: Diode D3 connects AC2 to +DC, and diode D4 connects -DC to AC1. Current flows: AC2 → D3 → Load (+ to -) → D4 → AC1. 4) Output Characteristics: The result is a full-wave rectified DC voltage with ripple frequency equal to twice the AC line frequency. Each pair of diodes conducts for approximately 180° (half the AC cycle). The total forward voltage drop is approximately 2 x Vf per leg. At 50A total output current, each diode conducts 25A average current (half the cycle). Power dissipation (approximately 50A × 2.2V = 110W) must be dissipated through the metal case to an external heatsink. The 500A surge current rating ensures the bridge can withstand high inrush currents at power-on or during short-circuit conditions without failure.
