The MINISMDC150F/12-2 from Littelfuse is a polymer positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resettable fuse from the miniSMD series. It provides 1.5 A hold current and trips at 2.8 A, protecting circuits from overcurrent conditions in 12 VDC maximum systems. Unlike traditional fuses, the PolySwitch device automatically resets when the fault condition is removed and the device cools, eliminating the need for replacement. The low initial resistance of 0.04 ohm minimizes voltage drop in normal operation. The 1812 surface-mount package is compatible with standard reflow soldering processes and is CSA, TUV, and UL approved.

The MINISMDC150F/12-2 uses a polymer matrix loaded with conductive carbon particles. At normal operating currents below the hold current (1.5 A), the conductive particles form a low-resistance path through the device. When an overcurrent condition causes the device temperature to exceed the trip threshold (typically at 2.8 A or above), the polymer expands, separating the conductive chains and dramatically increasing the device resistance. This limits the fault current to a low leakage level. When the overcurrent condition is removed and the device cools, the polymer contracts and the conductive paths reform, restoring the low-resistance state. This resettable behavior eliminates the need for fuse replacement.
