The MR25H256ACDF from Everspin is a 256Kb SPI MRAM with unlimited write endurance, zero write delay, 20+ year retention, and 40MHz SPI in an 8-DFN package – a drop-in replacement for serial EEPROM/Flash.

MRAM uses magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) memory cells. Each cell stores a bit as the magnetic orientation of a free layer relative to a fixed layer. When the magnetic orientations are parallel, the cell resistance is low (logic 0); when anti-parallel, resistance is high (logic 1). Data is written by applying a magnetic field to flip the free layer orientation. Reading is non-destructive by measuring the cell resistance. Unlike Flash/EEPROM, MRAM writes are not limited by charge trapping, enabling unlimited endurance.
