This highly integrated device combines three high-performance 10-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with an HDMI 1.4 transmitter, providing a complete single-chip solution for converting analog video signals to digital HDMI format. The MS9282-1 operates as a complete analog-to-digital video conversion system with the following internal architecture: 1) Analog Input Multiplexer: Two analog video input channels are multiplexed, allowing selection between VGA (RGBHV) and YPbPr sources. Each channel includes three analog inputs for the color components (R/G/B or Y/Pb/Pr), plus sync inputs. 2) Triple 10-bit ADCs: Three high-speed 10-bit analog-to-digital converters digitize the analog video signals at sampling rates up to 165MSPS. The ADCs are accompanied by automatic gain control (AGC) and offset correction circuits that adjust for varying input signal amplitudes (0.45V to 1.1V peak-to-peak). 3) Sync Detection and Processing: The chip detects and extracts horizontal sync (HSYNC), vertical sync (VSYNC), and composite sync signals. SOG (Sync-On-Green) processing is included, where sync information is extracted from the green channel’s back porch. 4) Video Processing Pipeline: The digitized video passes through several processing blocks: – Color space conversion (RGB to YCbCr or YCbCr to RGB) – Brightness, contrast, and saturation adjustments – Deinterlacing and scaling as needed – Automatic phase adjustment to optimize sampling timing 5) HDMI Transmitter (TMDS Encoder): The processed digital video is encoded into TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) format for HDMI output. The transmitter includes three data channels and one clock channel, operating at pixel rates up to 165MHz (supporting 1080P@60Hz). 6) Audio Processing: Digital audio from I²S or SPDIF inputs is encoded and embedded into the HDMI TMDS stream. The device supports PCM audio at sample rates from 32kHz to 192kHz, as well as compressed formats like Dolby Digital and DTS via SPDIF passthrough. 7) DDC/I²C Controller: An I²C master controller handles DDC communication with the HDMI display, reading EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) to determine supported resolutions and audio formats. 8) Control Interface: An I²C slave interface allows an external microcontroller to configure the chip’s registers, set video modes, adjust image parameters, and control power management. 9) Clock Generation: An internal PLL generates the necessary internal clocks from an external 24.576MHz crystal reference. The PLL also produces the TMDS clock for the HDMI output.
