The PIC16C622-04 is an 18-pin member of Microchip’s PIC16C family of 8-bit microcontrollers, featuring 2048 words of One-Time Programmable (OTP) program memory—twice the capacity of the PIC16C621. This expanded memory allows for more complex application code, state machines, and control algorithms to be implemented in a cost-effective OTP form factor. Built on the proven 14-bit mid-range PIC architecture with 35 instructions, the device also features 128 bytes of general-purpose RAM, providing increased data storage for variables, buffers, and intermediate calculations. The dual analog comparator module offers flexible configuration options including two independent comparators, a window comparator, or a single comparator with internal voltage reference. The 16 general-purpose I/O pins—divided between Port A (6 pins) and Port B (8 pins)—provide ample connectivity for interfacing with external components, with Port B supporting interrupt-on-change on the upper nibble and a dedicated external interrupt pin (RB0/INT). The dual timer architecture supports a wide range of timing applications, from simple delay generation to event counting and pulse width measurement. The OTP memory model is ideal for high-volume production of mature products where firmware stability has been proven, offering the lowest possible unit cost. The 04 speed grade supports operation up to 4 MHz with a wide supply voltage range of 2.5V to 6.0V.

The PIC16C622-04 executes instructions using Microchip’s mid-range PIC Harvard architecture, with separate 14-bit program and 8-bit data memory buses operating in parallel through a two-stage fetch-execute pipeline. Most of the 35 instructions execute in a single instruction cycle (4 oscillator periods), yielding a 1 MIPS execution rate at 4 MHz clock frequency. The 2048-word OTP program memory is addressed by a 11-bit program counter, with an 8-level deep hardware stack for subroutine calls and interrupt context saving. Data memory is organized in banks containing 128 bytes of general-purpose file registers plus Special Function Registers for peripheral control and status. The dual comparator module features two analog comparators with multiplexed inputs and outputs, configurable through the CMCON register for various operating modes. Timer0 is an 8-bit timer/counter with an 8-bit prescaler, capable of counting internal instruction cycles or external events.
