The TCMT1100 from Vishay Semiconductors is a single-channel phototransistor output optocoupler in a compact SSOP-4 (half-pitch mini-flat) surface-mount package. It consists of a gallium arsenide infrared-emitting diode optically coupled to a silicon NPN phototransistor. With a CTR range of 50% to 600% and 3750 VRMS isolation voltage, it provides reliable signal isolation for industrial and communications applications. The ultra-low coupling capacitance of 0.3 pF minimizes noise coupling between input and output circuits. The package design provides a fixed distance between input and output on one leadframe for highest safety requirements. UL1577, VDE 0884-5, CSA, BSI, and FIMKO approved.

Working Principle:TCMT1100 Working Principle

The TCMT1100 operates by converting an electrical input signal to infrared light via the GaAs LED, then converting the light back to an electrical signal via the phototransistor. When forward current flows through the LED (IF), it emits infrared light that is detected by the phototransistor base region, generating a photocurrent that drives the transistor. The CTR (Current Transfer Ratio) of 50% to 600% means the output collector current can be 0.5 to 6 times the input LED current at IF=5 mA. The 3750 VRMS isolation is provided by the physical separation between the LED and phototransistor within the package, with creepage and clearance distances designed to meet safety standards.
