The UP-C2002A is a standard 20-character x 2-line STN dot matrix LCD module featuring an HD44780-compatible controller (SPLC780D or equivalent), LED backlight, and 4-bit/8-bit parallel interface. The module displays 20 characters per line across 2 lines with a 5×7 dot matrix font plus cursor. The built-in character generator ROM contains 192 predefined characters, while 8 additional user-definable characters can be stored in CGRAM. The internal power-on auto-reset circuit ensures reliable initialization without host intervention. Operating at 5V with a typical logic supply current of 1 mA and LED backlight current of 30-40 mA at 3.3V, the module is compatible with virtually all 5V microcontroller platforms including Arduino, PIC, and STM32.

The UP-C2002A module integrates an LCD controller (SPLC780D/HD44780 compatible), segment and common driver ICs, and an STN liquid crystal display panel. The controller receives commands and character data from the host MCU via the parallel interface (RS, R/W, E, and DB0-DB7 pins). Commands configure the display mode (2-line, 5×7 font), cursor behavior (blink, shift), and entry mode (increment/decrement). Character data is written to the Display Data RAM (DDRAM), which maps directly to the 40-character-per-line address space (20 visible + 20 hidden). The controller generates the multiplexed drive signals for the 16 common lines (1/16 duty cycle, 1/5 bias) and segment lines to produce the visual output. The LED backlight provides illumination through the transmissive STN panel for high contrast.
